Why Colorbond

Benefits of Colorbond Fencing in Perth

Wind Resistance

Colorbond fencing panels are engineered and tested for Australian wind conditions. In Perth, most suburban properties fall under wind region N2, while coastal areas like Hillarys, Scarborough, and Mindarie require N3 ratings. We install to the correct specification for your location, including appropriate post spacing, footing depth, and panel gauge — so your fence stays standing when the Fremantle Doctor turns into a proper storm.

Fire Rating

Colorbond steel is non-combustible, making it a smart choice for properties in bushfire-prone areas around Perth's urban fringe. Unlike timber fences that can carry fire from property to property, a Colorbond fence acts as a barrier. It meets BAL (Bushfire Attack Level) requirements where timber fencing cannot.

Termite Proof

Perth has some of the most aggressive termite species in Australia. Timber fences in WA are a known target — and once termites find your fence, your home could be next. Colorbond steel eliminates this risk entirely. No chemical treatments needed, no annual inspections for your fence line.

Zero Maintenance

No painting, no staining, no sealing, no replacing rotted palings. Colorbond's Activate technology provides a self-healing zinc-aluminium-magnesium coating that protects against corrosion, even at cut edges. The baked-on polyester paint finish resists UV fading so your fence looks as good in year ten as it did on day one.

10-Year Warranty

BlueScope backs their Colorbond steel with a 10-year warranty on material integrity. Combined with our workmanship guarantee, you have confidence that your investment is protected. We use genuine Colorbond products — not imported look-alikes that do not carry the same warranty or performance credentials.

Privacy & Security

Unlike paling or pool-style fencing, Colorbond panels provide complete visual privacy with no gaps between boards. At 1.8 metres standard height, your backyard becomes a private retreat. We can also install at custom heights where council permits allow — ideal for properties on busy roads or overlooked blocks.

The Comparison

Colorbond vs Timber Fencing in Perth

Timber fencing has been a Perth staple for decades, but it comes with significant drawbacks in our climate. Hardwood palings shrink and split in summer heat, softwood treated pine warps and requires re-staining every two to three years, and both are vulnerable to termites — which are active year-round in WA's sandy soils.

The upfront cost of Colorbond is comparable to quality hardwood fencing, but the lifetime cost tells the real story. Over ten years, a timber fence will need at least two full re-stains (labour and materials), replacement of damaged or rotted palings, and potentially chemical termite treatment. A Colorbond fence needs nothing — the occasional hose-down if you feel like it.

From an aesthetic standpoint, Colorbond has evolved well beyond the industrial look of older corrugated fencing. Modern Colorbond fencing uses clean, flat panels with concealed fixings. The colour range is curated to match contemporary home designs, and the consistent finish on both sides means your fence looks great from the street and from your yard.

Installation

How We Install Colorbond Fencing

Every Colorbond fence installation starts with a proper site assessment. We check levels across the fence run, identify any services (water, gas, electrical) along the line, and assess soil conditions. Perth's predominantly sandy soils require specific footing depths and concrete volumes to achieve the wind rating for your area.

Posts are set in concrete footings at spacings determined by the wind rating — typically 2.35 metres for N2 and closer for N3 and exposed locations. We use galvanised steel posts (65x65mm or 75x75mm depending on height and wind loading) with bottom rails and Colorbond panels lock-fitted between. All fixings are concealed for a clean finish.

For sloping blocks — common across Perth's northern suburbs — we step the panels to follow the grade. Each step is level, with infill panels at the bottom where required. We also handle retaining wall top fencing, with posts anchored through the retaining wall cap for a solid, integrated result.

Most standard boundary fence replacements (30 to 50 metres) are completed in one to two days. We remove and dispose of your old fence, install the new Colorbond system, and leave your site clean.
